I've recently been watching re-runs of the show '3rd Rock From The Sun' for some brain downtime.
I remember watching it as a kid and finding it pretty hilarious then and I'm still find myself giggling away. There are a number of innuendos that I hope I didn't understand as a child that I definitely do now!
The thing I've been finding the most interesting though is how much curiosity and intrigue of human life and form that the alien characters have - we are a weird and wonderful species. Something like crying, they continue to call this leaking from the eyes, even a few seasons in! Drawing even more curiosity for me around the way we have created words and language - why the word "crying" and not "leaking".
Quick history lesson: I just had a quick look at the etymology online (love Google to find me the word etymology!!) so crying refers to 'wailing or shriek', and was extended out in the 13th century to also refer to leaking water from eyes (weep) in grief or pain.
Other than crying, they also question many other things about the human body and way of living, pretty much with the same curiosity as a baby or toddler but with the ability to say or ask it.
What it led to me to start thinking about is how as adults we lose so much of that curiosity and just 'fall in line' with what is, excuse my language, normal. How wonderful would we all be if we remained curious, maintain the "why" we loved so much in our vocabulary when we were little feet and legs that took giant steps and leaps...
Curiosity is one of my highest values, I'm a big questioner of everything...I am forever hungry for knowledge and love to question "it's always been done this way".
So two things for you reading today...what's your favourite show and then what are you curious about the most?
